Secret Circle Party Review

One word for these parties is Alternative. Let me be honest its not going to be everyone's cup of coffee, unless you love a crowd filled with young hipsters looking like Cindy Lauper in 2013.  The whole vibe screams 1990 Skunk Anansie. However for me it is an experience I'll never forget.

A group of creative youngsters have brought sexy back to the Johannesburg inner-city with the stellar Secret Circle party. The Secret Circle Monster Ball occurred on the 24th November 2012 in Newtown’s renowned party district, putting the party up as an exciting addition to the Jo’burg queer party scene. Secret circle, with an emphasis on fashion, dance, art and club-culture, promises to offer a revolutionary approach to night-life in Johannesburg.

The Secret Circle party injected a flurry of sultry energy into the Johannesburg queer party scene, with an exciting line-up of fresh and favourite artists. The DJ line-up had the crowd bopping to the beats - of Rakkie, WWLD, DJ Grace Jones & Casioheart, The Fluffers, Data Takashi and The Bear DJ – till the early hours of Sunday morning. Our very own Lady Gaga – Ally Oop (Herman Botha) - graced the event chatting to adoring fans, dazzling the crowd with her spectacular dance moves and delicious meat dress.

Secret Circle aims to cultivate an inclusive, cool, creative club space for young queer people in the city of Johannesburg. Events planner,Christopher van der Berg and his scene-smart friends, Eve Rakow, Jenali Skuse, Jade Zwane and Gabriel Khan, are super excited at how this event has blossomed into a cheeky challenge to the queer scene.

The Secret Circle Pride warm-up party brought together a vibrant group of young queer people, keen to reclaim the night in Johannesburg.

After the sizzling heat of the last party, the Secret Circle team has decided to turn down the heat, turn on the water and whet your wanderlust for some sunset tropical fun. They have found a mansion, with a pool and a dance floor and want YOU to come over!

It will be sexier, more exclusive, with a lot less clothing, and all the superior underground entertainment you’re used to.

It will be held on 2 March 2013 starting at 2pm by the poolside and promises to be the best way to usher out summertime. Tickets are on sale at Ke Ai in Greenside (info@keai.co.za/ 011 - 486 2972) and for R250 you get exclusive access, an open bar and a little gift bag.

The Secret Circle party stands as a promising new development. The success of the parties has lead the organising team to create a permanent fixture every two months. Secret Circle distinguishes itself from the mainstream queer places, it is a space somewhat edgier (being located literally on the edge of the inner city) but also somewhat more daring (with its irresistible underground entertainment). It is also a promising space, as it is located in a place making it accessible to the diverse groups of queer people around Johannesburg.
