On South African Runways
One of the most interesting things about fashion design is the fashion weeks and their runways. The street styles you get to see in between shows, the excitement building up as you see the designer's name appear on the background before the show, the pretty models and their fab make up, and uhm, yeah, the clothes.
I do not always get to go to the shows but when I do I am always amazed by the talent and creative genius of the designers even when I cannot personally see myself wearing that. This year attended the AFI Fast Track show. I was blown away by the contestants' collection !! You could not imagine that these designers were beginners-everything was so neat and professional. Unfortunately I have not found any official pictures online so I guess another time, maybe ?
BUT........
Some of SA's best designers, Thula Sindi and Andre Martin just released pictures of their shows on their individual Facebook pages. My favorite looks :
I love the ladylike silhouettes, and the mix between lace and leather !!! Yes to the lacey pocket opening !
Galactic denim and overalls = everything I wanna wear this winter.
Also, Design Indaba happened earlier this month and designer showcased there as well. What I found interesting was how wearable the collections were; while being edgy, trendy and unexpected - they were also very casual! Very inspiring fashion that I hope to see soon in the stores ! In the meantime some visuals !
Sitting Pretty, Margot Molyneux and August for the last 2.
I liked the androgynous silhouettes of these outfits, as well as the mix of neutrals with green and blue in drapey fabrics ! Ideal for the active business lady who prefers the comfort and casualness of pants
Olowsdotter for the first 2, MaXhosa by Laduma, Non European
Very street / sporty looks over here ! The purple knit jumpsuit looks extremely comfortable and light but warm at the same time ; always happy to know the drop crotch pants are still around [by the way]. And those sweaters, those sweaters !!!! Did you notice the bead-work on the 3rd image? It looks regal and gender-bending at the same time, how great is that?
I like how these outfits are feminine without being too sweet and girlish nor femme fatale. They are classic, contemporary and your every day kind of clothes but still remain ahead of the game. I really want that orange outfit. I would wear it every day until it spontaneously com-busts on me.
Adriaan Kuiters, Mr and Ms and Adam and Eve
Loving the dark and light mix of colours between these outfits ! They look like THE perfect day to night winter outfits that might just need a change of earrings and make up in between. Sober without being too strict those outfits would suit pretty much any body type!
What do you like the most about the outcomes of the recent fashion weeks ? Did you attend any of them? Will You attend SA Fashion week? What is going on in your wardrobe these days?
